Tell it what you ate
Take a photo or type a sentence, for example: “pasta with tomato sauce and two slices of bread”. No barcode hunting, no gram-by-gram logging.
In development. Early access is open.
Foodi-AI is a nutrition assistant being built in the Netherlands. Describe or photograph a meal and Foodi-AI estimates its nutritional composition, then suggests one or two realistic changes based on your health goals. Not a calorie counter.
Foodi-AI is a preventive-nutrition assistant for people who want food to work for their health rather than against it. You describe or photograph a meal; Foodi-AI estimates its nutritional makeup, checks it against your allergens and goals, and suggests practical adjustments, such as swapping a fast carbohydrate for a slower one, adding fibre, or lowering the salt in a dish you already like.
Our first focus is people living with pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes and hypertension (high blood pressure). These are conditions where everyday food choices play an important role. Foodi-AI also supports people with raised cholesterol and with food allergies or intolerances, and anyone who wants to eat better without counting calories.
Foodi-AI is an information tool. It does not diagnose or treat any medical condition, and it does not replace your doctor or dietitian. Please read our medical disclaimer.
Status: the platform is in active development. The website, recipe library and shopping guide are live now; the meal-analysis app is in closed early access.
No food diaries to maintain, no weighing scales, no streaks to lose.
Take a photo or type a sentence, for example: “pasta with tomato sauce and two slices of bread”. No barcode hunting, no gram-by-gram logging.
An estimate of carbohydrates, fibre, protein, fat and sodium, plus a flag for anything on your allergen list.
One or two realistic adjustments for that specific meal, explained in plain language. No 30-day plan you will abandon.
Recipes built around the same principles, and a guide to Dutch shops where you can find the ingredients.
Small, repeatable decisions add up. Foodi-AI is designed around them.
Describe a meal in your own words or photograph it. Foodi-AI produces a nutritional estimate rather than demanding exact quantities, because an estimate you will actually use is worth more than precision you will abandon.
Set your allergens and intolerances once. Foodi-AI flags likely triggers in meals, recipes and products, and suggests substitutions that keep the dish recognisable.
Meals with the same amount of carbohydrate can differ a lot in fibre, protein and fat. Foodi-AI focuses on the composition of a meal, including fibre, protein, fat and order of eating, rather than only its totals.
Guidance built around what is on the shelf at Albert Heijn, Jumbo, Ekoplaza and specialist web shops rather than an American product database.
A readable summary you can share with your GP or dietitian, so a consultation starts from what you actually ate.
Our Insights library summarises published research in plain language and links each summary to the original study, so you can check our reading against it.
These are conditions where everyday food choices play an important role, and where practical day-to-day help between appointments can be hard to find. We are building Foodi-AI for them first, and widening from there.
If a blood test came back “slightly elevated” and you were told to watch your diet without much detail about how, this is the gap Foodi-AI is built to help with.
What you eat influences your blood glucose every day, not only on the day of an appointment. Foodi-AI shows how a meal is built (carbohydrates, fibre, protein) and what a realistic swap could look like, alongside the care plan you have with your doctor or diabetes nurse.
A lot of salt is already in packaged food before you reach for the salt shaker. Foodi-AI makes the sodium in the meals you eat more visible and suggests lower-salt swaps.
Also supported: raised cholesterol, and food allergies and intolerances such as gluten, lactose, nuts and soy.
With a health product, it matters who pays for it. Our primary business model is user subscriptions, not advertising or paid placement.
Foodi-AI is built as a subscription app. Once it launches, a paid subscription will be our main source of income, which is meant to keep our interests aligned with yours rather than with advertisers. Early access is free today, and we will publish the price here before anyone is asked to pay.
In the future, some links to shops in our shopping guide may be affiliate links: if you buy something after clicking one, the shop may pay us a small commission, at no extra cost to you. No affiliate tracking is active at the moment. It would be a minor part of our income and it will never decide which shops we recommend. Read the affiliate disclosure.
What we do not do: sell advertising, or sell or share your personal data.
Balanced, blood-sugar-friendly recipes with full nutrition figures and Dutch supermarket ingredients.
An independently researched guide to where to shop for healthier everyday food in the Netherlands, including organic, whole-food and allergen-friendly options.
Plain-language summaries of peer-reviewed nutrition research, each linked to the study itself.

Partly. The website, including the recipe library, the research insights and the Dutch shopping guide, is live and free to use today. The meal-analysis application is still in development and is being tested through a closed early-access group, which you can join for free.
No. Foodi-AI provides nutrition information and guidance and is not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease, and it is not a substitute for advice from your doctor, dietitian or pharmacist. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before changing your diet if you have a medical condition or take medication.
The website is free to use. The Foodi-AI application will be a paid subscription once it launches. Early access is free for participants during the testing period. The subscription price has not been set yet, and we will publish it here before anyone is asked to pay.
Not by default. We use no advertising or analytics tracking cookies. The only optional cookies are affiliate cookies from partner shops, which are placed solely if you accept them, and which you can decline or change at any time through our cookie settings.
Mainly through subscriptions to the Foodi-AI application, once it launches. That is our core business model: user subscriptions, not advertising or paid placement. In the future, a small additional part may come from affiliate commissions on some shop links in our shopping guide. No affiliate tracking is active at the moment. Any commission would be paid by the shop, never by you, and would not influence which shops we include or how we describe them. We do not sell advertising and we do not sell personal data.
Yes. The Foodi-AI app supports both Dutch and English, and you can switch language in the app. The full website is also available in both languages: in Dutch at foodi-ai.nl and in English at foodi-ai.com, with the same content.
Early access is free. You get the first working version, and we get the feedback that helps decide what gets built next.
